This Bursary initiative honours the legacy of founding member and first Chairman of UNIPET, Mr. Winston Romany who departed this life on 4th May 2020. He was a pioneer in systems thinking and will be remembered by the following quotation: ‘In management one spends a lifetime trying to change human behaviour and fails – the only proven way to change human behaviour is to change the environment he or she works in.’
Earlier in the year UNIPET donated laptops to several other school-aged students to assist with virtual learning during the Pandemic. The bursary now adds to UNIPET’s relationship with UWI, which has persisted for several years through award to Final Year Engineering Students with focus on Guyana. The Company’s outreach programmes, including this Bursary, pay tribute to the Mr. Romany’s vision for nurturing young talent. Several young students have emerged from UNIPET’s Internship Programme and are now integrated substantially into the fast-paced downstream fuel industry, which continues to become diversified.
The bursary award was presented to Mr. Yatali by Dr. Rasiah P. Ariyanayagam, shareholder, co-founder and Director of UNIPET and owner of the UNIPET Lower Santa Cruz Service Station. Sales and Marketing Manager for UNIPET, Mr. Junior Serrette was also on hand as the company’s representative.
